As a graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee with a B Des hons Degree in Illustration and printmaking I am passionate about creating images that communicate the world around me. I work in response to my surroundings, inspired by a small observation, a scene glimpsed in passing, a memory.
I completed a PGCSE at Homerton College Cambridge followed by a Masters Degree in Education and am currently working as Head of Art at Dr Challoner's Grammar School, Amersham, Buckinghamshire. I have returned to England after 15 year abroad as Head of Art at Marlborough College Malaysia and the Modern English School Cairo.
Much of my work reflects the wonderful wildlife I was lucky enough to see everyday in Malaysia. I start with lively sketches which I develop into designs for linocuts. I work on a small scale cutting lino blocks that I print in small editions in black ink. Then I hand finish each print with watercolour which adds vibrancy.
Birds are a recurring theme, for both their presence around us and the freedom they symbolise.
While in Cairo I was involved with the interfaith Arts Festival 'On a Caravan' each year: www.caravan.org
In addition to my prints I have undertaken illustration work for book covers, greeting cards, wrapping paper.
